Poetry/ Roderick Palmer

Happy Wednesday my dear readers, Did you enjoy the interview with Joshua Martin? While we are on that topic..Did you see the video "I Am Constance" well Roderick Palmer wrote the wonderful poem and I was shocked because it was awesome a guy wrote it. Now I'm going to let him tell you about himself a little bit.

"Hello, I'm Roderick Palmer. I'm 19 years old and I'm an aspiring photographer and writer. My love for writing started in the summer of 2009. That same year, I was heavily influenced by one of my favorite English teacher's named Mr. Bray. In 2001, when I was 9 years old, my sister Dorrett passed away from Hopkins lymphoma. As you can imagine, it changed my whole perspective of life. Dorrett, despite being sick, refused to let cancer dictate her life. She never blamed God, nor did she blame anyone of our family members. Through the pain that I watched my sister experience, and through the pain that I experienced myself, I was determined to do something great or worth living for in my life. Writing is something that we all can do, but if you're not passionate about what you're writing about, you might as well not write about it at all."

In case you missed the poem here it is and not only that, here is the video in case you missed it here

 "I Am Constance"

As the sun rubs against my skin, I wonder through the garden
The sun is high, powerful and radiant
My heart yearns to mimic its light
The trees sway so effortlessly,
I am in search of purpose, where might I find it?
Is it located deep in the soil, where my heart blossomed?
Is it located somewhere on the moon, in the craters of the darkness
No... The beauty of nature makes me question my own existence
What will I accomplish in this life, before my light begins to fade?
And in my moment of curiosity, the wind begins to brew
My hair once bound breaks free
The clouds begin to roar in dominance,
What is the earth trying to tell me?
 I stand still,
As the rain slides down my skin,
I tilt my head back, I let go of everything:
I have let go of my past, I no longer fear the future
With each drop,
My purpose in life becomes clearer
I am no longer the most delicate flower in the garden
I have found serenity in myself

Interview/Joshua Martin

Hi Readers. Welcome to a new week. Whatever your going to do this week or any obastacles you may come across. Just remember be strong and press on and continue to pursue your dreams.
Today I bring you another interview. This time its's with a young photographer who is really talented named Joshua Martin.
LYFE:Why did you choose photography?
JM:Photography became a growing passion for me. I chose photography for that reason, I couldn't stop learning more about it. I never saw myself as an artist, so this weird plan that God had changed my completely.

LYFE:What inspires you about the idea of taking photos?
JM:Inspiration comes from the story a photo can tell, or the way a photo can make a person think about a subject, a person, or event. The idea of making that image from the mind, to the eye and then through camera is a  beautiful piece of art.

LYFE:What is your favorite type of photos to take?
JM:This has to be the hardest question someone can ask me. To be honest, don't have a favorite as of yet. I'm still in the process of finding what style really reflects me in my work.

LYFE:I see you make videos too; Is making  videos harder than taking photos?
JM:Yes, doing video need more planning than photography, but having a photogenic frame of mind helps when framing different scenes. There are more technical issues to deal with in video.

LYFE:What are your dreams for your photography business?
JM:My goal is to own a multimedia business in the future. Photography, video, web, and illustration will be the core of everything we do.

LYFE:Lastly what would be your advice for those who would like to break into the photography business?
JM:My advice is this..if you don't have a passion and a goal. Photography isn't for you. It's not easy because everyone want to be or is a photographer. But if you do have the passion, be different and find your style.

Thanks Joshua For the great interview & to my readers, here is some of his great work..A video "I am Constance", and some photos he took.

Interview /Distinguish'd Minds

Hola Readers..Remember in my last post I said there is a interview post coming?... well...introducing

This is Jason, Creative Director/CEO of the sucessful brand "Distinguished Minds". He took the time out to do this interview.

LYFE: For those who are unaware, What is "Distinguished Minds"?
Distinguish'd MInds is a clothing brand based out of the San Francisco Bay Area. We pride ourselves on branding young fashion forward individuals, artists, skaters/bikers, and dancers, and keeping them all in the freshest of the fresh in clothing. We like to consider what we do, a breath of fresh air to the clothing game, because as far as we know there is no brand that creates clothing with a story behind it. Its like poetry in motion. our visuals are put together very strategic. Our slogan is "Distinguish yourself from the rest," which means to stand apart and be an individual, which is a lesson many havn't learned quite yet. We are teaching people that it is perfectly fine to have dope stuff like everyone else, but make it unique and your own, and also to never be afraid to be completely different.

LYFE: What made you want to start a clothing brand?
I started a clothing brand because I knew I had something to give to the game. I have been drawing since i was a youngster. I was originally a baseball player, and a lot took place on how that failed, and I won't get into it but, I had a past with clothing when i was in high school, so got back into it. I always have crazy different styles, and dope stuff popping off in my thought process so I chose to bring it to life.
LYFE: Seem like alot of success has happened with" Distinguished Minds" within 4 months. How so?
We have been fairly successful, that is indeed true. It's come with a lot of hard work. Success is not a completion, it is something that you must continue to work for day in and day out. the moment that you believe you can rest, you have already lost. with that said, we have have made every attempt to make sure each day is a step forward in some instance. Also we have just pushed while receiving a ton of help from good people all around the world, so as hard as we have worked, it would be nothing with the people around us loving our brand. But more than anything what has really brought the brand this far is the grace of God, without him we are nothing.

"Diamond King" represents the grind, the eyes are shaped
like gears and as they grind hard, and the more pressure endured,
you get diamonds.once you see the diamonds,
which are represented by the eyes. As the
hood says;"want to eat" means  seeing your fair share of
profits. This is why the diamond is in the King's mouth.
Women are driven to the diamond and also the king, which explains
 the lipstick kiss mark.
LYFE:The Designs on the clothing is eye catching and well constructed, Are these made on paper first then scanned into photoshop?
The brand is very particular with designs, a lot of the little things are always skipped over, which is fine. Often time the designs are drawn and scanned into the programs, and other times they are constructed straight in the computer. It can be very difficult when you go directly from the program, but either way it goes, every design created is 100% original, artistically developed from the team's Distinguish'd Minds.

LYFE: Who is "Distinguished Minds" made out of?
Distinguish'd Minds is still a very small brand, with a big bark if that makes sense. Our team is based on a ton of friend's in the marketing area. People like Carla hughey, Bridje Ledesma, Andrea de Alba, and others have been there from day one, helping the brand and allowing it thrive in situations   where it was at a stand still. I myself am the Artistic director, and owner. I take the grunt of the work, but or brand is growing every day, which is truly a blessing, and exciting to work with new people. if anyone is interested in learning marketing and joining the team feel free to contact us.

LYFE:For Those Who would like to start their own clothing brand, What would your advice be on how to start?
To those who are interested in beginning your own brand, i suggest that you do a lot of homework before. often times we get into thing prematurely, and they consume us before we had a chance. make sure this is something you truly want to do. and when you have decided it's what you want to do, go at it full force. never quit even in failing times. a man named Devin Lars once told me, "the only way you can fail is to quit, or not do something at all."

& lastly...

LYFE:What are your dreams/ expectation for" Distinguished Minds"?

Distinguish'd Minds has now reached a status where it has its own reputation and status if that makes sense. the dreams exceptions are endless, and grow each day, but the foundation remains the same day in and day out. The outlook of the brand will always be to keep people looking fresh, and giving opportunities for other's to thrive with our art expos, and shows, and definitely reminding people to always distinguish themselves from the rest. We also look forward to jumping into cut and sew, beenies hats, etc and making ourselves a full on brand, and one day opening a store, and growing globally.

Thanks to Jason for doing this interview check the brand
